Education should address the whole child: physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth. Shauna’s belief is that teachers should help each child become an independent successful learner who is willing to take risks and explore their own personal abilities.
Shauna has a Bachelor of Education with a focus in Elementary Education graduating from TRU in 2011. She obtained Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2009 majoring in ceramics and drawing and enjoys sharing the importance of the art process and presentation of children’s works of art. She had been a certified Early Childhood Educator since 2002 and has had the chance to work in Montessori, Reggio Emilia and traditional school settings. Shauna worked as a teacher understudy at Thompson Rivers University for three years delivering lectures on the Reggio Emilia approach to learning and assisted in collecting data for educational studies and research. She continued to work as substitute preschool and junior Kindergarten teacher while going to school to finish her teaching degree.
Shauna moved to the Lower Mainland and worked at a private all boys school In Vancouver British Columbia. She worked at St. George’s Junior School as a Resource teacher and substitute teacher for grades 1, 2 and 3. She then moved to Maple Ridge British Columbia and worked at Meadow Montessori as a Full time Montessori Kindergarten Teacher and Visual Arts Teacher for Kindergarten grade 1, 2 and 3. Shauna’s last year of teaching in British Columbia was in New Westminster at Urban Academy a private Fine Arts Reggio Emilia Inspired School where she taught Kindergarten full time and two classes of Kindergarten Fine Arts.
Shauna looks forward to sharing new experiences and creating memories with all of the families at Walter and Gladys Hill Public School.
