About Our School
Walter and Gladys Hill opened its doors on September 2014 with a student population of 414. A variety of programming was immediately available to students attending Walter and Gladys Hill Public School.
Walter and Gladys Hill Public School develops engaged 21st century learners from ECDP to Grade 6. Our students are ethical, global citizens learning through collaboration and inquiry with an entrepreneurial spirit that meaningfully contributes to society.
Throughout the last 4 years, staff, students and families have worked hard together to ensure students are working to their potential, getting 21st Century skills development and supports they need to be successful.
Success has been demonstrated in our yearly educational results as well as through various competitions and performances where students have had the chance to share their skills and abilities with the general public.
Our robotics teams have grown over the years, culminating so far with last year's record 10 teams entered (out of 55 city wide) and receiving "Overall Tournament Champions" "Best Mechanical Design" and "Best in Programming".
Our students did well at the Coding tournament, winning three categories: Rookie Coder of the Year, 2nd place in Design and 3rd place in Programming giving us a Second place overall. We also had two students win 1st and 3rd place at the Innovators and Inventors Fair last May.
Smarter Science, we feel, has helped to develop the scientists in our students and they have brought back great results each year they have entered the Wood Buffalo Regional Science Fair. Those who go on to Ecole McTavish and Westwood continue to do even better! We had 8 Regional Science Fair winners in 2015, a record 9 in 2016 and last year we brought home 5 Science Fair wins. We are very proud of our Science Fair project winners.
We are fairly new to the Performing Arts scene, however, last year students were able to win Platinum in the Division 1 group choir at the Rotary Music Festival. We also held our first musical in the Spring of 2017. We look forward to even more in the future!
We continue to offer the only PEAK Cricket Program in the city, and possibly the country!
We now have a student population of 565 students. We are constantly growing our population and strengthening our programs to ensure our students get the best educational experience at Walter and Gladys Hill Public School.
