About Me

Hello parents and students,

My name is Mrs. Karan Dobson.  I am teaching grade 1N at Walter and Gladys Hill Public School this year.

In 2012, I moved to Fort McMurray to become the Learning Coach at Dr. Clark Elementary School.  During my 3 years at Dr. Clark, I was a Learning Coach and grade 3 teacher, and I also took on the role of Acting-Vice Principal for half of the school year.  I moved to WGH in September, 2015, to teach grade 1.  Prior to joining FMPSD, I taught in remote fly-in First Nations communities in Ontario, as well as in the Nisga’a valley in northern BC.  My 12 years of teaching include high school (grades 9-12 English), grades 1, 2 and 3, and 6 years as a Special Education Resource Teacher.  After becoming a teacher in 2005, I continued my post-secondary education to earn Special Education and Reading Specialist certification.  In 2013, I completed my Principal’s Qualifications in Ontario.

I am a lifelong learner and I model this for my students.  I love gardening, creating art, reading and writing, and I am passionate about early literacy and numeracy.  This year I want to help your child feel excited and proud of his or her reading and writing, and math skills.  Please share your ideas, questions and concerns with me, as we make our grade 1 journey together.
