My name is Matthew Shewchuk, and I am ecstatic to join the Walter and Gladys Hill Public School family as the new vice principal for the 2024-25 school year!

I was born and raised in Fort McMurray, and I have worked with the Fort McMurray Public School Division school division for 10 years. I have taught from grade 2 to 12, and I have worked in various division office leadership roles, with my most recent being the Curriculum Coordinator. I completed my Master of Education degree from Memorial Univeristy of Newfoundland, and I also hold a Bachelor of Education and a Graduate Certificate in School Leadership from the University of Alberta. Recently, I have started my Doctor of Education at Western University, with a focus on school culture and wellness. I am so thankful to join such a collaborative, vibrant, and connected school community! 

My priority for the 2024-25 school year is to lead Walter and Gladys Hill by continuing to empower staff, students, and our families to be active participants in shaping our school and to continue to provide meaningful, authentic, and active learning experiences for all.
